AT HOME WITH
“It’s close to Aldi, the beach and restaurants
and cafes. We both lived in rural places
growing up, so it is great to have amenities
on our doorstep. It ticked all of our boxes.”
The couple’s offer was accepted before the
property went onto other property portals
and the process took eight weeks from start
to finish. Reece says they were “incredibly
lucky” at how efficient it was as the sellers
had already bought another property so
they wanted a quick sale.
Reece says he would tell fellow first-time
buyers to “make yourself aware of what
the process is”, adding: “I would have got a “It’s likely that if the flat had been on the market
mortgage in principle earlier – we had to longer, it could’ve gone for a higher price, but
get that done quickly and we should have since the sellers were looking for a quick sale,
had a better understanding of the mortgage they were happy with our early chain-free offer
process. You should set money aside for – all while the property was still Exclusive to
LBTT and solicitors fees. ESPC, so I’m glad it’s the first place we looked.”
Reece and Megan originally wanted a period Portobello
property but they compromised on that
as they wanted a flat that didn’t need a
renovation or repairs.
“We initially weren’t planning on buying a
property and we were very sure of what we
wanted,” Reece says. “Our flat is only a few
years old – it was built in 2018.”
The flat appealed to them because it has free
parking, space for a sofa bed for family to come
and stay and space for Megan to work from
home.
Reece adds: “The flat was a blank canvas for
us as the previous owners didn’t put their own
stamp on it. I like how it has an open plan
kitchen and living room. It’s great for when we
are hosting friends and family.
