Off to university A room to call your own
Student accommodation can be a mixed bag,
ranging from basic box rooms with a bed,
desk and wardrobe (often with the bonus of
large communal spaces) to modern studio
apartments and shared houses. Whatever
the space, putting your stamp on a room will
instantly make it feel like your own.

Kitchen
Stocking the kitchen can be tough. It’s likely
that your housemates will bring bits and
pieces too, but it’s better to be safe than
sorry – you can always take any extra things
you don’t use back home at Christmas. Raid
the drawers at home: if your parents or
caregivers have spare items you can borrow
such as a colander, cutlery or bowls, that’s a
few less things that you’ll have to buy. Run
through your favourite meals to cook, and
think about what kind of kitchen equipment
you’ll need: a sieve, grater, pan, baking tray,
